A squeaky staircase isn't something you have to live with. The solution lies in a careful and systematic approach, not a tube of glue and hope. My process begins with a detailed inspection of your entire staircase. I check every single tread, riser, and the supporting stringers to isolate the exact points of friction. Squeaks are caused by wood moving and rubbing against other wood or fasteners, so identifying the 'why' is the most critical step.
Common causes are often related to the natural expansion and contraction of the wood in your home. This can cause gaps to form, fasteners to loosen, or wood components to warp slightly. A tread might be rubbing against the top of a riser, or the entire step assembly might have a tiny bit of play against the main support frame (the stringer). Simply forcing glue into a gap rarely works because it doesn't address the structural movement that's causing the noise in the first place.
Once I’ve diagnosed the problem areas, I use specific techniques to fix them properly. This often involves re-securing the treads and risers with specialized trim-head screws that can be countersunk and concealed. For gaps, I use high-strength construction adhesive combined with wood shims or reinforcing blocks that are glued and screwed into place from underneath or behind, where possible. This creates a solid, unified structure that eliminates the movement and, therefore, the noise.
My focus is always on a clean, internal repair that respects the craftsmanship of your home. There are no messy, visible fixes. It’s about reinforcing the staircase from within to restore its original, quiet strength. If you’re tired of announcing your every move with a chorus of creaks, give me a call. "Rudy is amazing and hasn't let me down yet. We all know how hard it can be dealing with contractors these days. They promise the moon but don't deliver. With Rudy, things are very different. If he promises, he will deliver. I have gotten 3 projects done with Rudy. There were nominal delays but Rudy is very professional and communicative. The first one was hardwood for about 800 sqft, the second one was hardwood for 1000 sqft and the third one was over 1500 sqft plus stairs. There were some problems with the stairs and Rudy was out of the country for a long time. However, as soon as he came back, he came to my house and fixed it, no charge."
Customer of Delight Flooring • 23 Sep 2019 • HomeStars"We needed to renovate our new house to get rid of some UGLY parquet floors & carpet. Rudy and his team came and gave us a very good estimate (we had had a few). The job was completed on time and on budget. The team were really polite professional and more importantly CLEAN! Thanks for my amazing floors Rudy!"
HomeOwner • 7 Mar 2014 • HomeStars"Rudy and his assistant, Mo, worked very hard to complete our stair project on time and on budget. They did not complain or come back to us with updated quotes or other issues. We are very pleased with the final result and have received many compliments on our new staircase. To add a touch of class, we offered them water from our garage fridge and to our surprise, they replaced the water they used at the end of the week. It was a very nice (but unnecessary) thing to do. Our only issue in the end was that some of the nails were still visible on the quarter round used to finish the trim work and there were a few blemishes on the stairs we had to touch up. These were very minor and ultimately, we couldn't be happier with the completed project. We would definitely recommend Rudy and his Team."
